GainBook Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Vedware ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the GainBook mobile application ("GainBook" or the "App") on iOS and Android.

By using GainBook, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Who we are

GainBook is published by Vedware. Privacy-related information is available at gainbook.vedware.com.

2. Information stored on your device

Most information you provide in GainBook stays on your device in a local database. This includes, for example:

• Workout templates, plans, and notes
• Completed workout sessions, sets, reps, weights, rest times, and durations
• Custom exercises and exercise preferences
• App settings such as weight units, rest defaults, theme accent, and language
• Heart rate summaries recorded during workouts when Health integration is enabled

We do not operate a GainBook cloud account or sync service. Your training data is not uploaded to our servers as part of normal App use.

3. Apple Health (optional, iOS only)

If you enable Apple Health integration, GainBook may read and write selected health data through Apple HealthKit, subject to the permissions you grant in iOS. Depending on your settings and device capabilities, this may include:

• Read: heart rate, active energy, body weight, workout records, and related workout effort metrics
• Write: strength training workouts and related workout effort data

Health data accessed through HealthKit is processed on your device and governed by Apple's Health privacy controls. We do not receive your HealthKit data on our own servers. You can disable Health access at any time in iOS Settings or within GainBook.

4. Crash reporting and usage analytics

In release builds, GainBook uses Sentry to help us detect crashes and technical issues. When an error occurs, Sentry may receive information such as:

• Device model, operating system version, and app version
• Crash stack traces and related diagnostic logs
• Approximate technical context needed to reproduce or fix the issue
• Network-related metadata that may include IP address

Sentry is disabled in development builds. Session replay is not enabled. This data is used only to maintain and improve App reliability, not for advertising.

GainBook also uses PostHog for product analytics, so we can see which features are used and where the App is confusing. PostHog receives events such as screens opened, settings changed, and workouts started or completed, together with a randomly generated device identifier, app version, platform, and device model. It does not receive your workout contents, notes, custom exercises, health data, or backup files, and we do not use it for advertising.

5. App updates

GainBook may check for over-the-air updates through Expo Application Services (EAS Updates). When the App checks for updates, Expo may receive basic technical information such as app version, platform, and update channel so the correct update can be delivered. This process does not include your workout history.

6. Static content downloads

GainBook may download public exercise images and related static assets from gainbook.vedware.com. These requests are for bundled exercise library content only and do not include your personal workout data.

7. Notifications and system features

If you allow notifications, GainBook uses them for features such as rest timers and in-workout status updates. Notification content is generated locally on your device.

On supported platforms, GainBook may also use system features such as iOS Live Activities, home screen widgets, and foreground services during active workouts. These features display information you already entered in the App and do not send that information to us.

8. Export and import

GainBook lets you export your local database as a file and import a backup you provide. Export and import are initiated by you and handled through your device's sharing tools. We do not receive these files unless you independently send them to us.

9. What we do not collect

GainBook is designed to avoid unnecessary data collection. In normal use, we do not:

• Require you to create an account
• Sell your personal information
• Use your workout data for advertising
• Track your precise location
• Operate a social network or public profile for your training data

10. How we use information

We use the limited information described above to:

• Provide core App functionality on your device
• Sync with Apple Health when you opt in
• Deliver app updates and exercise assets
• Diagnose crashes and improve stability
• Understand which features are used so we can improve the App

11. How we share information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share limited technical data with service providers that help us operate the App, such as Sentry for crash reporting, PostHog for product analytics, and Expo for update delivery. These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms.

We may also disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users or others.

12. Data retention

Workout and settings data remains on your device until you delete it, replace it through import, or uninstall the App. Crash reports retained by Sentry are kept only as long as needed for debugging and service operation, according to Sentry's retention practices.

13. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain processing of your personal information. Because most GainBook data is stored locally, you can usually exercise these rights directly in the App or on your device by:

• Editing or deleting workouts, templates, and custom exercises
• Exporting your database for backup
• Disabling Apple Health permissions in iOS Settings
• Disabling notifications in system settings
• Uninstalling the App

14. Children's privacy

GainBook is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

15. International users

GainBook is operated from multiple jurisdictions through service providers that may process limited technical data in the United States or other countries. By using the App, you understand that this information may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data protection laws than your own.

16. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect information processed by our service providers. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You are responsible for safeguarding exported backup files and access to your device.

17. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes may also be communicated in the App or on our website where appropriate.
